The North East has the highest rate of young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) in England. This ‘Framing the Future’ event will explore how young people fall out of education employment or training, why the North East is so severely affected and what needs to happen to re-engage these young people as we recover from the pandemic.
Framing the Future is the Chamber’s events series where we take a deep dive into the North East’s big political and economic issues with expert speakers to discuss their research and ideas.
Each session will end with a panel Q+A session, allowing members to get involved in the debate, raise their own research and ideas. The goal is to ultimately explore these topics and their possible solutions as ways of levelling up our region by sharing cutting edge research and ideas between our members.
Our next event in the series will explore what the future of the Further Education system should look like, where the ‘college’ fits in and how our education system gets there.
Speakers and agenda:
Ben Gadsby, Head of Policy and Research at Impetus
Professor Tracy Shildrick, Professor of Inequalities and Head of Sociology at Newcastle University.
Both speakers will present their research and ideas before Jonathan Walker, Director of Policy at the Chamber who will then host a panel style Q+A, where attendees have the opportunity to ask the speakers questions on the topic.
